Camp Fun

Ah, Camp; we've been waiting for you all year.

The first few days were hot enough to take the kids to the beach, a favorite of theirs because it combines their favorite outdoor fun: sand and water. They happily filled their buckets and tea cups and built little towers to stand just long enough to knock down. A good last hurrah for warm summer days.

The rest of the week was cooler, with temps hanging in the 50s and 60s. This is perfect weather, in my book, and we spent time every day at the playground, watching the kids climb all around, pushing them on the swings, and dreaming up plans for our own backyard swing set some day.

We had slow mornings and afternoon naps and evenings in the cabins, reading books and playing games. I finished up the Book of the Dun Cow, which I loved, and kept moving through Gilead and the Two Towers. The girls colored with their new crayons and coloring books in the mornings while waiting for the rest of us to be ready to go out and seize the day.

Soccer Golf was a big hit this year, as it always is. Gwen played along with us this time and had a great time doing it. Pippa toddled along with us, sometimes playing with a ball, but always choosing to abandon us to play in the sand when we got to the volleyball net. Little Cranberry even got to "play" her first games of soccer golf, at a time when she is very much resembling a soccer ball in mommy's tummy.

The girls loved learning nursery rhymes and games from the Tausz parents. They loved to sit on their laps and sing and play while waiting for meals, or even during meals if they could convince us.

What is camp without hiking through the woods? The girls proved their stamina by walking all over camp to see the many different campsites. They stopped at each one to go inside and call out "Who dares to come into my tower?", a new favorite phrase they learned from Papa. They also loved stopping on stumps and pretending to be statues. After all the activity of the day, they slept well, actually taking a nap every single day we were there.
