David Richard Edmund

Our fifth baby has enjoyed surprising us all around. He surprised us by being a boy after four girls, he surprised us with false labor that took us into the birth center and then sent us home again, he surprised us with my water breaking at the start of labor, and he surprised us by coming exactly on his due date. What's not surprising? How cute and precious he is and how much we all love him.

We were very thankful that he wasn't born in the blizzard that occurred the weekend before, and that we made the long drive to the birth center before labor had really picked up. I am also thankful to say that this postpartum has been one of my easiest and that he is my best newborn nurser.

Our little boy bears the name David after my dad and after king David in the bible, (D.) Richard after Nick's dad and grandpa, and Edmund after one of my favorite characters in the Chronicles of Narnia, as well as a nod to his two Ed great-grandfathers, Edgar and Glen Edward.

He was born at 3:26 am and weighed 9 lbs 14 oz, putting him smack in the middle of my babies' weights.

His sisters are smitten with him as well, and love to "holdy" him, even if emotions are a little all over the place. When aren't they?

We are still trying to wrap our heads around being a family of SEVEN (?!?) and having a SON (?!?) but couldn't be happier about both.
