Pictures + Poetry = Published Post

"The time has come," the Walrus said,
"To talk of many things:
Of shoes and ships and sealing-wax
of cabbages and kings
And why the sea is boiling hot
And whether pigs have wings."

Today, 113 years ago, Lewis Carroll died. He is probably best known for Alice and Wonderland, but I personally know him best for his poems. I LOVE his poems.

Twas brillig and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogroves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch
Beware the jubjub bird and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome fore he sought-
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood a while in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came.

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
Oh frabjous day! Calloh! Callay!
He chortled in his joy.

Twas brillig and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogroves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Yes, it's quite nonsensical. But I love it anyway. That was the first poem I memorized, just for the fun of it. And if you think it's funny just reading it, try reading it out loud. That's half the fun of it. I'll Tell Thee Everything I Can is too long to post here but is oh- so-funny. It is definitely worth your time.

So that you needn't go a whole post without pictures, here are some more from out trip...

It doesn't look like we have fun, does it? ;)

Aragorn and Arwen cookies. :)

Because I couldn't end without saying something about LotR, right? These are the first two gingerbread cookies I decorated this year. Aren't they sweet? :)

p.s. 9 days till England!

  1. :O I WANT THOSE COOKIES!!!

I love the Jabberwocky poem, too. I had to memorize it for school, and it was the only poem I enjoyed memorizing. I did motions with it and everything. :)
