Coming home from Higher Things is always sad. It involves saying goodbye not only to awesome people with whom you talk and laugh and sing and eat every day, but also to the wonderful services that are held three times a day with 900 other people right there with you. Nothing compares to those services, really. I say it every year, and I'll say it again, those services alone are worth every penny spent, every hour on the road, and even worth losing your voice over. And the people? Well they're worth every minute of lost sleep and every mile of the road there and back. Leaving it all behind never gets any easier.
But this morning, I got to be reunited with all of those people at church. Sure, only ten of the Higher Things crowd were actually sitting in the pews of our church, but don't let that deceive you. Jesus, his angels, and all His saints joined us today just as they did all week long. In the Lord's Supper we are made one not only with Christ but also with His Church, which includes all those wonderful people I got to see at Higher Things, those who weren't able to attend Higher things, and even all those saints who have already been ushered out of this world of sorrows and goodbyes. Our church may not look as full as a Higher Things service, but you can be sure that Jesus and his angels and his saints are all there: a great host so large that no one could number it, praising God. Te Deum Laudamus. Alleluia!
